1A: AGES 2.5-6 – 3:1
Learning fundamentals
This class is designed as a first experience for swimmers ages 3+ who are ready to learn to swim independently of a parent. In this class our swimmers are working on safe entry and exit from the water, breath control, submerging of eyes, nose, ears and mouth as well as buoyancy and overall body awareness in the water. Introduction to more complex movements in the water begin here. All swimmers in level 1A still require a flotation device or teacher assistance in order to swim. In this class, swimmers will work to gain the skills necessary to become safer in water.
1B: AGES 3.5+ – 3:1
Developing endurance
This class is designed as the next experience for children ages 3.5+ who have already graduated 1A in our program, or a first experience for swimmers ages 6+. Swimmers in this level are physically and cognitively ready to learn to swim independently of a flotation device. In this level swimmers build strength and endurance in the water by swimming longer distances and beginning to use unassisted back floats for rest. Swimmers will exit this level able to perform a swim-float-swim progression unassisted.
